Would just like to get a feel for how fast my iPAQ 3950 is when running TTN2, against other users out there. I am running a full UK map on a no name 128MB SD card (FAT32/16k). Also I am running TTN 2.01 and ROM v1.11. I did a clean install of TTN2 and Activesynced the entire map to a freshly formatted SD card.
When I perform a routing calc between two points, say origin in Wimbledon,London and destination is Stansted Airport, I notice that it takes a good 5-10 minutes to work out the route. Whether I switch to Normal or Fast routing, it makes no difference really. Is this a "normal" speed for TTN2 on an iPAQ 3950?
When travelling with the Navigator mode, I notice that the screen updates are a little jerky. Not bad, but not exactly Play Station smooth scrolling.
Perhaps I have a crap type of SD memory which is pretty slow??!?
Any comments will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Simon. |

on an ipaq 3850, 128mb sd card (memorex)with full uk map.
routing from Dundonald Park area of Wimbledon to Stansted airport took 64 seconds!
looks like something is wrong with your setup!
Also scrolling on 3d view is fine.
I can't beleive that the sd card access time is causing this what else is running on the ppc?

It was a fresh install. Other than Battery Pack 2003, nothing else is running

Just timed a routing calc from Wimbledon to Stansted, a 45 mile journey. It takes 9 minutes to work it out

INTERESTING RESULTS!!!
I have downgraded my iPAQ 3950 from ROM v1.11 to the original v1.00. I reinstalled TTN2 and applied the 2.01 patch. Left the 128MB SD memory intact with the full UK maps and FAT32/16k format.
Time to route from Dundonald Road, Wimbledon to Stansted Airport - 62 seconds!!!!!!!
It seems that the v1.11 causes the SD memory to slow down?!?. So I think I will stick with v1.00 for now
Regards,
Simon. |

Oh no! This is driving me mad now! Mine (iPAQ 3970 ROM v2.1, TTN2.01) takes about 5 mins for this journey! What am I going to do? In all other respects TTN2 works well.
Can others do the test too please?
ChrisH, what versions of ROM and TTN2 are you running?
Thanks in anticipation.
(I can see myself reinstalling ROM v2.00 again....grrr) |

There is an issue with the new ROM updates and SD card drivers on the 39xx Ipaqs. Check out the posts on Compaq's forums. I have a 3950 and when I went to ROM 1.11 I found problems with Navigator, the maps are installed on SD card, went back to 1.00 now everything is OK.
Done the above route test = 59s

Ok, so I've returned to ROM v2.00 (iPAQ 3970).
Dundonald Road (NW10) to Stansted 50 secs.
Dundonald Road (SW19) to Stansted 35 secs.
Bingo!
Thanks chaps. |
