Different GPS protocols question

Hello,
I understand there are different GPS protocols like NMEA and SIRF and wonder which one is used in Europe. Or in other words what kind of receiver to buy so I can use it in Europe? Is there any difference at all ??

I appreciate any info in reply or if you point me to any sources helping me to better understand the GPS system.

Welcome to the forum.

Nowadays most receivers support both protocols, bit NMEA is much more common. There is no regional difference. You can buy any receiver that supports NMEA.

Any GPS receiver will work anywhere (that's what the G stands for in GPS)
