Please can somebody help me?
My navman thinks that my address is situated in the field behind my house. whist this is not a great problem it means that I never actually reach my destination. this means that if i drive away from the house without entering a new destination it is allways trying to get me home.
Is it possible to turn the navman just onto a map mode? if so how?
thanks |

You could try two things.
First, you don't need to have a destination entered to use the 510 simply as a moving map. Just turn it on and once you have a fix, drive off and the map will follow you in 2d or 3d mode. That said, you can still get the speed camera warnings, etc as you drive.
Secondly, do what I did. When you are parked at home, magnify the 2d map as far as it will go, tap the centre of the arrow twice and then set that position as a favourite and call it 'home'. You'll never end up in a field again. |

I had a similar experince on Sunday. I painstakingly structured a route around the Cotswolds on Saturday evening, putting it into the 510. The route started at Cherwell services, J10 of the M40. Sunday morning I meet with some friend and a group of 6 bikes set of, heading west, and the GPS keeps telling me to make a U turn. I try to ignore it and make my way to the first waypoint, and it's still trying to make me go back the opposite way....
On looking at the map it became clear that I hadn't gone past the start point, and it wanted me to go there and start again So I deleted the start and first "waypoint" and it was fine, although I was starting to get a bit cheesed off by that woman telling me to "...perform a U turn" !!!

The 510 SHOULD auto-cancel a trip when you get to the destination. I had a problem with this a couple of times in that it would leave the trip active after I had finished, so I had to cancel the route manually. To do this, go to Route Information - Cancel Route.
If the unit is continuously refusing to self-cancel, what I did was a reset by turning the battery switch at the back off and on again before turning the unit on. |

On looking at the map it became clear that I hadn't gone past the start point, and it wanted me to go there and start again... | This occurs on the Pocket PC version too and has happened to me a few times when I have inadvertently added my start point into the Trip Planner.
You should avoid having your start point in your Trip Planner otherwise, as you have found out, the device will try to route you back to the start at every opportunity as it thinks this is your first destination or waypoint and won't be happy until you go back there! _________________ Ian.
