Hi,
New here, so please be gentle 
I am just about to change jobs and sat nav is going to be very useful. I have spent several hours researching and have hear the 510 is a good bet, and also I have been told it does what I need.
The main feature I require, is to be able to enter several addresses/postcodes (up to 9 or 10) and have the device work out the best route for me. Am I correct in thinking the 510 will do this?
On searching for the best price, I have found amazon are selling it for £349.99. Is there anywhere I can get it cheaper than this?
I did notice that I can get the 610 version of £299.99 - is this a higher or lower spec device?
Sorry about all the questions! Let me know if there are any other systems I should be looking at.

Yes it will, "with a bit of practice"

I have see first hand a unit from amazon, and it was definately a repackaged unit. (someone bought it and it maybe had a small fault in the programme and was sent back, they repackage and send out as new)
I did notice that I can get the 610 version of £299.99 - is this a higher or lower spec device?
Sounds a good price for that, ? is it portable.

No, the 510 does not have the facility to "auto-optimise" your 9-10 stops. The best you can do is enter the data and then plot the route, have a look at it and then manually change the order. Certainly not ideal, but workable.
The 610 is much more bulky and, I believe, doesn't have an internal battery, meaning that if you want to use your GPS away from your vehicle, you won't be able to.
I'm not sure if the 610 has the 3D function either (some love it, others hate it).

Is the 610 not the older unit that was replaced when the new series of 510, 650, etc came out? I'm not sure that the 610 runs v3 of smartST, it may be running v2. Maybe someone else can enlighten on this. |

Mmm....I was assured by http://www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk that it did have this function.
Do any sat nav sysems offer this feature? Surely its a feature that a lot of sat nav users would find useful? |

I was working on the Idea of using the Route Planner with lots of destinations, sorry if my info came across wrongly.
I can type in postcodes and save and then route plan with no problem. |

OK, so I guss this feature isnt available in any device?
After further research I am starting to wonder if I should use CoPilot Live with my mobile phone. I have a Orange SPV C500 so it would just be a case of buying the software and a GPS device.
The only worry I have is the screen size would be very small, and that I would lose some functionaility. |

Hi,
The iCN 610 does come with v3 software.
It was intended for the German market only but they are on sale here in the UK. I believe it has similar specifications to the older 620 unit in that it doesn't support 3D view.

No! Don't do it! CoPilot 5 on SmartPhone is as buggy as hell and certainly not fit for daily use as a sat nav system.
Pretty much all sat navs offer partial post code lookup (first 4 characters) but this is more to make sure that you have the street in the correct area (ie, High Street, SE13 rather than High Street SW19).
Not many actually let you put in a full post code and navigate there without any further input.
Check the reviews/speculation about the latest TomTom, I think this has full post code lookup but the feature is fairly new.

The full post code search isnt something I need. The ability to optimise a route of multiple stops was what I was after.
Thanks for the advice on the smartphone option. I thought that would be the case. |
