Have a look at this. Just found it. I thought the Emtac Blue tooth reciever was good. Is there a review on this yet?

That looks like the Fortuna SmartGPS. I would like to review it but the people at Fortuna dont answer any emails and I cant seem to find a European distributor for them.
It actuall sounds like an ideal solution. Just cant get my hands on one at the moment. _________________ Mike Barrett |

I was all set to buy an Emtac BT GPS until I saw that one. I think it would suit me better than the Emtac because a) it takes AA batteries and b) it would be a handy backup to use when walking and the weather is not suitable for waving my IPAQ about in the open even with some sort of splashproof case.
Like you though I can't find anywhere that I can buy one. |

We have been testing it for several weeks. We are considering whether to add this on our product list.
My opinion:
It has the right form factor - BT as well as used as stand alone unit, use batteries. I am sure others will follow.
As Tim mentioned there is a review on gpspassion.com.
GPS itself and BT work as well as can be expected.
What I like - price, performance.
What I do not like - casing (cheap feel), low resolution, battery life (should have gone for AA rather than AAA batteries - though car adapter will be available but that would not be my reason to get a BT GPS).
The retail price of around US$270 probably wins many followers despite the short comings.
It should now be available with some European distributors and it will be interesting to see what the European price is. (my guess is around £250)

£250 is spot on. I just found the receiver on Premier Elextronics for £250 + VAT 293.75 (Welcome to Rip-Off Britain AGAIN ) URL is http://www.premierelect.com/0701.cfm?category=223
I am going to contact them today to see if we can get hold of a review copy. _________________ Mike Barrett |

I had a look at the link you put on and it's now down to £210 inc vat. Thats still cheaper than the Ematc one. _________________ Always like a good bit of technology. |
