HI-303MMF reception problems

I've been using the 303 MMF with BT-401 with pocketGIS on a ipaq2100 for about 2 weeks and am finding the whole thing very temeperamental and unreliable.
Whether using the bluetooth connection or the COM port I can never be sure of getting a reception, sometimes getting reception all day (although taking over an hour to establish a reception) and sometimes not at all, in the same position at the same time of day.
Is it fair to say the receiver is faulty and should be replaced?
I also noted that the red light on the reciever flashes when I get a reception and is constant when there is no reception, opposite to what it says in the manual.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Dont worry. I've done the Winfast Navigator test and it appears screwed.

For what worth, whilst yours is apparently faulty, even when working correctly mine flashes the red light with a lock, and is steady without. Can't remeber whats in the manual, but it is the opposite to the 303E, presumably a feature of the different chip sets.
