|

Hi all,
I am looking for a CF solution for use with an Ipaq 2210 running TT3.
The newer SOS CF Plus II unit looks good, and the one with integrated 512mg memory looks really tidy. Is there any reason to suspect that the integrated-memory version of the unit will perform any differently than the standard unit? Specifically, I was wondering whether having the map data flowing off the same unit might affect GPS performance? Cause any lag maybe?? Pretty handy having your GPS unit and maps all tied up together like that...
Anyone used one of these yet?

I am currently reviewing the SysOnChip 256Mb CF GPS card. So far I have not noticed any speed issues with either the GPS of the CF.
It uses SiRF xtrac 2 for improved fixes in poor signal areas. In theory this should be a good thing, but I have found that it still reports a strong signal, but the position is not very accurate. I wont say too much about this at the moment as I an still evaluating it. _________________ Mike Barrett |

Thanks for the info Mike.
Think I'll go for the Haicom 303mmmf then - feedback suggests its a reliable performer... |

I'm using an ipaq 2210 with TomTom Navigator 3.
It did all work well until the ipaq battery stopped working but I'm sure that was unrealted to the GPS :P |

Waiting for a response from SOC at the moment. Review should be ready in about 2 weeks. _________________ Mike Barrett |

I'm not certain but I think the SysOn might be causing problems with my system. Whenever the card is powered down and back up again (say when the unit is switched off) then TomTom crashes, i.e. it refuses to accept any further menu entries.. it won't work properly again until a reset.
However without the GPS card present it works flawlessly. |

I have been using the SysOnChip w/512Mb on the Dell Axim x50v now for two weeks - I also need to hard reset the Axim every time I power back on if I want to access the storage (e.g. play an MP3 or copy files from the home PC to the "Mounted Volume") or use TomTom.

Interesting that someone else has this problem. I'm thinking of ditching the CF and getting a TomTom wired GPS just for reliability purposes. |

Guys,
What software versions are you using with the CF GPS?
I am using the latest drivers from the Sysonchip site on a 2210 with WM2003 (first edition) and either TomTom Navigator 3.07 or Memory-Map 2004.
I did have a big system crash when I first started testing, but did a hard reset (no option) and reloaded all my apps from scratch. I cant say for sure what the cause of the crash was, but certainly the SOC GPS was running at the time.
Other than that I dont experience any problems like you are describing. Although there was one occasion when the GPS would not start in TomTom, and I had to soft reset to gewt it working again. _________________ Mike Barrett |

Mike - I'm using TomTom 3.07 on WM2003 2nd Edition. Yesterday I upgraded from the original A01 ROM that shipped on the Axim to A02. This made no difference to the problem - whenever I power up the Axim, I have to resset if I want to use TomTom with the GPS or access any of my files that are stored within the CF's 512Mb. I don't have any other GPS s/w to try :-(
I'm not sure what drivers I'm using (How do I check?) - I just used the CD that came with the product (the manual says v1.0) - I will find the CD and have a read around the website to see if I'm upto date or not....
Regards,
Stuart. |
