Hi all,
I have just got myself a Ipaq 2210 and have a couple of questions. first, i am looking to link it to a GPS but all the different connectors have got me confused! some gps have usb connectors etc but i cant see a way to link it to the pda unless you have a special cable. Is this the case?
Which Wired GPS would you recommend? not to expensive, but usable! i have decided not to go with a bluetooth GPS as i have read on this forum it is not good with the 2210. Also there are no batteries to worry about! (is this the case??? are the gps's powered by the PDA unit or external power units?? - i wont be using it in a car, it will be in a light Aircraft)
Last question, i am also going to buy a memory card, is there a preference between SD and CF?? is the speed people quote really important?
I'm on my first PDA (arrived yesterday) and still learning like you, have a look at Valueflash for the memory, they did me a really cheap SD card, and gave me true next day delivery. I dont want to try to answer which to go for on the SD vs CF debate, CF offers bigger storage, but SD is marginally cheaper. Just make sure you buy one thats big enough for all your needs (i got a 512MB one for less than £25 from valueflash) with all of tomtom, the POI's i need, the UK postcode app and a few other bits, plus a few selected MP3 tunes, i still have 61% capacity to spare.
I to have gone for a 'wired' antenna for similar reasons to you. Dont worry about the GPS cable connectors as long as you can get the connecting lead that hooks you up, from your antenna to your PDA. As for which Antenna to go for, then look at the reviews, and read the advice on the forum. 'Which antenna should i buy?' is one of the most common questions on here, so you'll find loads of opinions, read them all, take them on, and then make a decision which to buy.

For dedicated in-car use go for a wired GPS Mouse. These have a 12v cigarette lighter power plug and a 'Y' connector to which a PDA specifc cable is attached. You buy the GPS and PDA cable together.
If you foresee a need to use GPS when away from the vehicle then a GPS Mouse is no use, it needs a 12v power source. In that case go for a BT GPS, they're very adaptable, only a little more expensive and can be used anywhere BUT if you choose this option you MUST use CF Cards for map storage as the 2210 has problems when using a combination of BT GPS and SD Card for map storage. Use CF and the problems are resolved.
FWIW, I use a 2210 with BT GPS as my workhorse, had it for years and it has never let me down. _________________ Darren Griffin
