I have :
Myguide Navigator 6500xl with Falk Navigator PE software

SYSTEM

PDA : Windows Mobile 2003 SE , StrongA

OEM INFO : Anubis - Typhoon

OS : WinCE 4.21 Build 1088

MEMORY : 31.4mb (37% in use)

DISPLAY : 240 X 320* 16bpp , Don't switch off

SOUND : Activated

POWER : External ,Don't switch off

VERSION

VERSION : 2.1.13.47 ()

BUILD : Oct 8 2004 , 20:33:36

I have a problem trying to copy the software to the 256mb sd card , it only wnts to take 30mb , does it need formating in the Pocket PC ?? if so how do I do it ?? I can't find a facility to do this , the german "Help" dept takes a month or more to get back to me , they said I need to do a hard reset and compleat the reload of the falk software , which I have done with no success ?

I have a card reader on my Win 98 pc.

Any Ideas to help this novice ?

you can use a memory card reader or a small software program called flash format from:

http://www.cnetx.com/format/

install the software and it is easy to us. Let me know how you get on.

Still no joy , I don't think the card is being recognised as there , if I put my 64mb card from my camera into the pda it shows about 50mb , if no card it shows 30mb . if 256 card still 30mb shows , i have tried the lock on the card in both positions , can that program be run from my PC Win 98 to format card in card reader ?

Thanks

Hello ferret25

First, what SD card is this, is this a new card, or the existing card, and what software are you trying to copy to it.

If the card is in the card reader, you can just right click the card drive letter and format it that way, BUT DO MAKE SURE IT'S THE CORRECT DRIVE LETTER, you don't want to format the wrong drive.

best thing to do is put the memory card in the PDA, click on:

start, settings, system, memory, storage card, make sure it says storage card and not just storage listed.

see how much is free there.

make sure no other program using the memory card, ie. soft reset the PDA and run that software to format the card.

I have now done soft reset , start , settings , memory :

MAIN = 62.82MB....this is split by a slider scale

Storage Allocated 31.41...in use 0.71 Free 30.70

Memory Allocated 31.41...n use 7.18 Free 24.23

STORAGE CARD = 30.04
The only thing in the "dropdown" list is "My Flash Disk"

These figures do not change whether the sd card is in it's slot or not , this card came as part of a package with the pocket pc and software , If I put my 64mb camera card in the slot the figures go up to 50ish but still come under "My Flash Disk" , when I first tried to set it up it gave a similar problem , and the pocket pc came up with a box "do you want to format" which I did , then after a full reload of the Falk software it worfed fine for a few months , then one day the voice record button got stuck on while in my bag , this locked up the PPC compleatly so I did a hard reset and have had this problem since.

Its the card that came with the set up.
The software is the falk navigator and maps that came with it .
I have now formated it through the card reader and my Win 98 pc , but still isnt being recgnized by Pocket PC?

I have just tried my camera SD card again and it comes up under -settings - system-(drop down) storage card .
So I think I have a problem with my original card being recognized in the Pocket PC as it seems to work in the card reader atetched to my PC running on win 98 .

It seems to be one of four things:

Faulty card (mechanical)
Wrong formating for card (softwear)
Faulty Pocket PC (mechanical)
Faulty Pocket PC (softwear)

The sd card is recognized in the card reader and formated by win 98 PC
The sd card is not recognized in the Pocket PC
A different sd card is recognized in the Pocket PC

I will try and get a repacement card from the supplyer , won't hold my breath though , as they took over a month to reply to an email .

Thanks for your help , both of you

that is very strange

The sd card is recognized in the card reader and formated by win 98 PC
The sd card is not recognized in the Pocket PC
A different sd card is recognized in the Pocket PC

Must be somthing faulty with the card if windows can read it, good luck.

Hello Ferret25

What make of card reader is it, if it a Dazzel card reader they have firmware updates because of these problems.

I can tell you it is definitely a card reader problem, regardless of make.

Try the manafacturers web site for a firmware update, this is a common problem with storage cards not working with digi cameras after using a card reader to format or delete files from them, sounds like PDA's are having the same problems.

Why did you not want to keep your Falk software & maps on that card ?

Hello PocketGPS,
Since my last post I have tried the offending card in my camera , it won't work in there either.

The card reader is "Typhoon" 6 in 1 , on the back it says "Anubis"

I did want to keep the original pre-loaded software but the Pocket PC prompted me to format the SD card as it said it needed to be formated when I first tried to set the system up , thats why I think the card must be faulty from the start . I have not been able to find out how to format a SD card in the Pocket PC since?

Hello Ferret25,

I answered this post about 1.5 hours ago, so where did it go ?

Anyway, I think the bottom line was try there web site, Customer care page, if there are no driver or firmware updates that can help on there, then contact them, tell them that after formating the card in there reader in cannot be detected by any of your cameras or pda's, but can still be seen via the reader, I presume that the camera says error, have you tried formating the card in the camera! I know, it just shows ERROR, it's the card reader that at ERROR.
