Greetings,

On a couple of occaisions now I have experienced this error with my icn 630 Sad . I recently upgraded to SmartST version 3.0. I never recieved this error with V2. Perhaps it's a coincidence. What exactly is NMEA? I am new to the world of navigation but eager to learn. 8)

National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA)

The NMEA 0183 Interface Standard is a standard protocol, use by GPS receivers to transmit data.

This error could be a coincidence. have you tried re-installing v2 to see if the problem goes away?

I recently bought a ICN 630 and fitted V3 software, and I am surprised how slow it is to aquire a signal after being switched on in the same location it was switched off (typically 2 -5 minutes). I have also noticed it displaying the NMEA error. When this error is displayed, it doesn't seem to be able to detect any satellites.

I have not used V2 software (although I do have the CD) so I don't know if it also has this problem.

As a point of interest, have you downloaded service pack one for the iCN630 running v3?

You can download it here

There was no mention of it improving the time to accuire a fix but I would install it anyway if you have not done so already.

SP1 covers the following:
1) GPS Lost Warning and Speed Alert relationship
2) Incorrect Route colour in 'Map Navigation' window
3) Functionality of Active POI tick box
4) Speed alert message is not cleared
5) Route Summary, displayed incorrect destination
6) Local Time offset increament, not consistant
7) Incorrect Estimated Time in Route Summary
8] Improved functionality of Trip planner buttons
9) Improved French translations
10) Incorrect 'zoom in' to iCN610 cross hair location
11) ATM and Bank icon not always displayed
12) Incorrect 'zoom in' to iCN610 cross hair location
13) Descrepancies when saving a Shortcut to Favorites
14) Limit the number of POI categories

Thanks,

I did not realise that the service pack has to be manually downloaded, I had thought that the PC application automatically grabbed it from the internet.

I have now downl;oaded and installed, it appeared to install new GPS receiver firmware, and my first attempt at GPS acquisition by holding the unit near the window here was very encouraging. It locked in about 30 seconds, rather than the previous 5 minutes. :D

I updated my icn 630 V3 with SP1 as well. Speeded things up and fixed the odd bug. I find it is still a bit slow getting a signal from cold if I haven't used the Navman for a long time (ie over a few days/weeks) but much quicker if it's been used earlier in the day.
