Haicom 204S is so unreliable

My advice to anyone who's thinking of buying one of these as part of their GPS system is - DON'T.
I'm at my wits end. Time after time this receiver fails to deliver a reliable signal and my TomTom3 navigator reports an unreliable GPS position. One minute it's working and then it just stops. Ten minutes later it starts working again! Last summer the supplier I bought it from told me it was suseptible to heat and I should try and shield it from the sun! Now it seems to be susceptible to all weather conditions.
Can anyone advise of a more reliable receiver that I can use with my Dell Axim5 running TomTom3?
