Hi,

I am new to GPS, I am planning to travel to Bangladesh and thinking of taking my laptop. Where can I get maps for Bangladesh to use with GPS?

Planning to buy a CF GPS (PCMCIA adaptor) or USB GPS reveiver. Which one of these receivers would give me better signal and drains less battery on laptop?

Also, how long does the internal batter on the receiver lasts? Are they soldered in the PCB or are they easily replaceable?

Any info will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

My recommendation would be USB GPS - or USB Bluetooth adapter (if the laptop doesn't have built-in Bluetooth) and a Bluetooth GPS.

Many laptops, particularly cheaper 'no brand' ones tend to put out a lot of RF noise, which stops a CompactFlash GPS working. Of the two laptops I tested, my Haicom HI-303MMF wouldn't work at all in a Compal ACL00 (branded Elonex) - it would get a fix on one satellite at most. The same GPS works just as well in my Dell Latitude D600 as it does in an iPAQ.

No idea on Bangladesh maps, sorry.

Is it possible to scan a map for a particular disctrict and make it work with gps ........some how?

Basicly I wanna do some land survey, mark it on a map in a electronic type.

Or how about a software application that will give me the position where I'm standing? Then I can go to four corner of a plot of land and take coordinates.

Thanks in advance.
