Ipaq hx2100 & TTN3 Problem

I recently changed my old 3600 Ipaq to a 2100 and forgot to check whether it was compatible with TTN3....It isn't.

Everything loads on ok and works perfectly for anything between a few minutes and an hour or so, then the system just locks until I disable then enable the GPS.

Tom Tom say that as they don't support it they can't help, which is fair enough I suppose.

I'm running TTN3 3.07 with a sysonchip 500mb CF gps, (Which is great).
Ipaq OS version Windows CE 4.21

Has anyone got any ideas?

Does the 2100 have the same crappy screensaver as the 4700? You need to disable that one.

Got the same problem.

Also got a 2100, Downloaded TTN3 form the HP website! Sad

It installes fine, but doesn't work. Tried alot! Nothing workt.

On the HP site it says to not take notice of the error, very strange.

Well any one have any hint or tips to get it all working?

Can you access the GPS from a different program like Crux_View?

You need to separate the investigation in smaller pieces - first test the hardware, then the software.

I am running TomTom on my 2110 and have no problems at all. INstalled very easy from CD (and the upgrade) and then just plugged it into the Holux CR-100 mount and away it went.

I presume other software is working OK on it and it's not a issue with a CF card or anything?

I've had no problems on a 2110. I installed from CAB files though. Try downloading the CAB files from the Downloads section of this site and installing it that way.

Maybe it is a problem with the iPAQ.

I've got a hx2410, running Destinator via a Haicom 303E GPS CF card and it drops the signal just anything between 1 and 35 minutes.

I've contacted HP for a compatible product list and am still waiting. Anyone out there got the info.

Various possibilities exist - though my suspicions would centre on the storage card subsystem. The hx2000 series are brand new - it may be that the SD drivers are sub-optimal (wouldn't be the first time HP had had a problem with those).

There may also be a compatibility problem between the hx2000 series and Sandisk SD cards - again, it wouldn't be the first time that there's been compatibility or performance issues with Sandisk SD cards and Pocket PCs.

Without access to a hx2000 series machine, I can only speculate - though if you can get your hands on a different brand SD card, it would be worth testing to see if that makes any difference.

As I said, I ran a 2110 for a few hours the other day (from London to Nottingham and back) and it performed flawlessly. Additionally, I was using a Sandisk SD card (256MB). Route re-calculations seemed quicker, too.

It's important to note that there are several generations of Sandisk SD cards, signified by different 'technology codes'. The 'technology code' is the penultimate (last but one) character in the code on the back of the card - assuming that it's 8 characters.

Typically, a Sandisk card has a code such as AR0304LR on the back - in this case, L would be the technology code.

The other thing that can change SD card performance and compatibility is the format used. Many cards are supplied as FAT16 with 16KByte clusters, which is not that optimal. TomTom software on the Pocket PC seems to do well with FAT32 and 2KByte clusters.

Hopefully more people will post their experiences with the hx2000 series soon - that way we should be able to spot any patterns.

I had similar problems. After reading a similar post I moved TTN app to main memory and the map files from my Sandisk SD card to a CF card. Everything is fine now.

TomTom Navigator 3 has never been particularly happy being loaded anywhere except main memory. CompactFlash cards tend to be less troublesome than SD, so that will also help - but I wouldn't want to speculate on which of your two changes made things stable (or, indeed, whether both were needed).
