External antenna - does it compliment or replace built in 1?

Hey gang,

I have a CF BC-307 and it has the jack for the external antenna- which I am starting to use a little more because I do get some better results.

My question is - once I plug in the external antenna - are all the signals coming in through that - or does it receive signals from both the external and built in antennas?

I have my ipaq 3950 & the CF BC-307 on the dash - and then I run the external antenna to the back window of the car - and thus I assume I am getting signals in the front and the back fo the car.

But if the built in antenna isn't used when the external is plugged in - then I guess I should just have the external up front as well.

the internal antenna is switched off completely as soon as you connect the external antenna.
