Hi
Thanks for the replies in the previous post guys

I have been using both the tomtom go and the navman 510 in the car for the last 3 days.

I prefer the routing of the navman, and I guess thats what its all about, so I will stick with it and get rid of the tomtom.

However, is there a way to increase the screen update of the navman, maybe by hacking into or tweaking the software. The tomtom updates around 5 times a second, whereas the navman updates around once a second

Also, is there any way to get rid of that annoying 3d direction arrow? On the tomtom it is just a 2d arrow, so it has no height. Sometimes the big thick 3d arrow on the navman covers up the junction, and makes it less clear. Surely the hardware is capable of just drawing a 2d arrow - any thoughts?

Finally, again on the covering up front, how do I stop every bloddy street name from being displayed on the 3d view? It totally clutters the screen! I just want my route, not to know 100 of the roads in the local area!

Any one able to shed light on any of this?

Regards
Lawrence

I doubt you can tweak the software.

The apparent update of the screen on the GO is due to ASN.
The GPS data is still only received once per second, it just appears to be smoother. This is just interpolation in the time between two GPS readings, so instead of 1 fps (frame per second) you get more fps.

The 3d arrow is an enhancement of v3. V2 didn't have this and personally I don't see any benefit.

One of the gripes with TomTom software has been the lack of road information. Personally I like it! I'm sure you will get used to it although the ability to reduce the amount could be useful.

God! Some people are never satisfied. Smile

You can change the display to make it clearer. Also when you slow to approach junctions, the display should home in with a clearer, enlarged display. You can choose to 'sharpen' the display and change the colour. You cannot 'tweak' the software. You cannot change that b****y annoying cursor!

Like icsys, I feel having the ability to reduce some of the information might be useful. Still nothing is perfect.

I like the Navman. After about 2 months continual use, it has never let me down and aways takes me where I want to go. (Different to my own choice sometimes!). It has saved me journey time and distance and I have seen parts of the country not seen before!!!

When you get used to it,I'm sure you will come to rely on it. Smile
