Permanently wiring into car

Since I really like my GPS setup I'm considering having it properly wired into the car, rather than just running a wire to the cigar lighter socket. Preferably so it's only powered when the car ignition is on.

Anyone got any advice on how this is done? I guess I would have to get it done professionally? Would it involve drilling holes in the dash to run the wires?

Some people say it's extremely easy but I haven't got a clue where to start or even what to ask somone if they are going to install it for me

I have an Ipaq 2210 with TomTom car kit, and TomTom wired GPS.

Not that difficult if you are confident with vehicle electrics. Your 2210 requires 5v which is provided by the carkit cradle. I'm not sure if the volatge reduction is done in the cigarette lighter plug or the cradle itself so you need to check this before you cut off the plug or you risk frying your iPAQ.
