|
|
I have used a 2210 for 18 months now and have been delighted, an excellent machine. I thought I would further enhance the use of the 2210 and opted for Bluetooth TTN3....and that is when the trouble started.
Loaded the software, copied the maps....and problems, problems...firstly Bluetooth stopped working, got a BTTrayCE error message, 2210 froze and needed soft resetting all the time etc. Read a few threads on various forums on a similar topic, and established that I needed updated ROM and TT v3.07 software.
Went on the HP website and downloaded the latest ROM upgrade, with the intention [and pain] of reloading all the software/files/settings.
Havent got thar far......ROM upgrade crashed, after following the instructions on the readme file, and now the 2210 is dead....wont power on, doesnt respond to a soft reset, doesnt respond to a hard reset, only shows a grey screen with no backlight, the HP logo and the word 'serial' at the top of the screen....when a soft reset is attempted, the screen backlight comes on for a second, then goes off.....
Have emailed HP support, but out of warranty and just waiting for an email letting me know 1. if it is fixable and 2. at what cost
Any suggestions, or simply clarification of what has happended and what should I try next would be greatly appreciated.

What's your level of computer knowledge. Ever used a terminal program?
I am asking this because there are certainly ways to revive the machine, but this requires some epertise.
When you put it into the cradle, does the "Serial" change to "USB"? _________________ Lutz

would say I am competent at following instructions, but am more of a user of computers.....
what are my options eg assume it will cost me to get the 2210 fixed
who would repair it
if the fix is relatively stratightforward, would be happy to give it a go |

If it changes to USB then there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Try to run the ROM update again, and make sure the iPAQ stays powered on (keep it in the cradle, and power the cradle).
Also make sure ActiveSync is killed (via the Windows Task Manager). It interferes with the ROM update process. _________________ Lutz

not much luck...
>ROM update sticks at 'verifying the information on your iPAQ...please wait...
>re Task manager + active sync......looked under apps + processes, cant find any relevant description to end process.....could tbis be cos it is not active unless it recognises the iPAQ is docked?

That just means ActiveSync was already killed by the upgrade process.
You say it doesn't react to a hard reset. How exactly are you doing the hard reset? (yes, this is a mean question ;-) )
If you are not comfortable with a terminal program then you will need to find a friend who is, or send it back to HP for reflashing. _________________ Lutz

hard reset, I hold down buttons 1 and 4, the two lowest, and press the soft reset at the back of the unit at the same time til the screen fades to blank
the power button has no effect
the soft reset button has no effect
only placing it in the cradle brings it back to life
then the backlight flashes, but it goes back to the screen i have described before
i just wonder if there is some other app/process still working in the background of my laptop that is preventing the ROM upgrade?
The only processes still in use when I look at Windows task manager sre;-
System Idle
taskMgr.exe
Explorer.exe
may be back to HP option........... |
