SD means Secure Digital - allows for encryption and protection of data on card. (Hardly anyone is doing it though).

SD has one more connector .

Speedwise I think they are the same.

Not all SD slots can read MMC cards! It needs to be explicitly mentioned.

Lexar is a good brand, or Panasonic. Stay away from Sandisk China.

Hello zerocool

There is quite a difference in speed between MMC and SD cards, in practice this may not be noticed depending on what you are using the cards for, but if you are playing MP3 files that are stored on a card then SD are much better as they can be upto 4 times faster to read and write to.

If you have both MMC and SD cards (say 512MB) that have the same data on them, using a card reader try sending the data to your HD, you will notice quite a difference.

Personally i use Lexar cards which so far i have never had any problems with, don't know why i first bought that brand, but have stuck with them, have 9 SD cards which i use in digital cameras and so on, all without problems, until i started visiting various forums i never realised that different cards could be a problem.
