Posted: Fri Jan 28, 2005 3:50 pm Post subject: So I've ordered TTN3 - What now ? |
|
|
After weeks of deliberation about which Sat Nav software to buy I have now ordered TTN3 which seems to offer ME all that I want/need ...
I already have Memory Map 2004 running nicely on my Ipaq 2210 & have read here about the possible problems I may encounter when I have TTN3 & MM on the same PDA (TTN3 want the BT all to itself ?)
So my first question is do I install TTN3 out of the box onto my PC/PDA ? As I understand it I want an earlier GPS Driver (2.07) ? Asuming my new box containing TTN3 will have a newer GPS Driver do I just download the older one & copy it to the relevant place on my PDA
Once I get that sorted I would like the POI Updates & have read up on the site here about POIEdit etc but if someone could explain the procedure to get POI's onto a newly installed TTN3 I'd be much obliged ...
Thanks for your patience ... Paul ;)
PS In case it makes any difference my GPS is a Fortuna ClipOn BT |

We recommend installing TTN3.07 via the CAB file that you can download from our side, and not installing TT GPS 3.07 - instead (as you mention) use the 2.07 GPS driver.
To install from CAB files you need to copy the CABs to the Pocket PC and then tap on them from within Pocket File Explorer.
This will make sure your Memory Map install will continue to function.
For everything else the standard installs should work. _________________ Lutz

Lutz - your reply above says ...

... sorry for being thick but this confuses me - the CAB files have 3 different types (Arm Mips etc) - which one do I want ?
There is also a 2.07 CAB file and you are telling me to use the 2.07 GPS driver but not the 2.07 CAB file ... as I said originally I will soon have a new box with TTN3 arriving & no doubt have a CD to install etc - do I install this as normal & at what point do I revert to copying my own CAB files ?

Unless you have a real exotic Pocket PC running on Pocket PC2000 you should always use the ARM version. It's not my fault that TomTom support all three processors! _________________ Lutz

I am telling you not to use the 3.07 driver but the 2.07 driver. _________________ Lutz

Thanks Lutz I think I am getting there
about ... Quote: | I am telling you not to use the 3.07 driver but the 2.07 driver |
... I am still not clear on how I achieve this, bearing in mind that I have yet to receive & install my new TTN3 (it arrives Monday 8) )
Do I install it as normal out of the box and THEN replace the 3.07 driver with the 2.07 driver ?
I just want to install with the least grief 8O
As Mark said below perhaps one of your "idiots guides" may be in order for CAB Files (?)
TIA ... Paul |

You don't need to install out of the box.
here's the order of things
- install TTN3.07 from the CAB file
- install TT GPS 2.07 from the CAB file
- install the maps and the voice files from CD - use a card reader on the PC, not ActiveSync
Installation of CAB files is simple. Using ActiveSync, Copy the CAB files as is (do NOT unpack) to a folder on the Pocket PC (for example \temp) and the use Pocket File Explorer to navigate to that folder, and tap the files to start installation. _________________ Lutz
