Hi im new to this GPS business. basicly I have a ipaq 3870 with a emtac gps jacket which is working fine. So I went on my travels to manchester and the gps was working fine. When I got to the city centre it kept disconnecting prob to do with the tall building a quess. Is there any way I can fix this so I get a good signal when driving in citys?
will getting a new gps reciver be better for signal
and will and ex antena be any good
Another question Im seeing these new gps recivers on the internet xtrac2 reciver (auto swiching between SIRF & XTRAC 2 MODES) what do these offer over my old GPS reciver? Im thinging of changing if they are better for signal and cold start time.
thanks

An external antenna would certainlyu help but the Jacket GPS units are not as sensitive as later receivers.
An external GPS antenna costs about £20 so would be worth trying. _________________ Darren Griffin |

On the roof is the optimum location but experiment and see where gives you the best or acceptable results. You may get an significant improvement by locating the antenna inside in the top of the dash near the base of the windscreen. _________________ Darren Griffin |

They (Xtrac) are able to calulate position in marginal conditions where others would stuggle but this tends to be at the expense of speed. _________________ Darren Griffin |
