How good is Tomtom Go

Hi there:

I'm Tomtom3 user (ipaq + CF GPS) and I'm happy with it, but I really hate this problems:

1.- Sometimes i must reset the ipaq.
2.- Sometimes I don't use the ipaq for a few days and the batteries get drain, so I must reinstall software.
3.- I don't use the ipaq for any other thing but Tomtom

So I'm thinking about the tomtom go and I have a few questions?

How is it compared to a iPaq + GPS? I mean, maps are the same, isn't it? What about the maps detail? Turn on timings? Is it buggy? What about the screen refresh time? GPS accuracy? Can anyone please talk me about their impressions?

- same maps
- less program features
- no battery drain problem (everything on storage card)
- still needs the occasional reset
- better screen refresh (4 to 5 Hz as opposed to 1 Hz - but that's eye candy only, not a result of better accuracy)
- same GPS accuracy
- permanent landscape screen mode.

It's ok if all you want to do is simple navigation. As soon as you want to do more you're back to the Pocket PC setup.

See my review of TomTOm Navigator 2004 - the TomTom GO is pretty much the same feature set.

If you want just Bog-Standard navigation, without all the wiring, and all you want to do is take it out of the bag start it up, tap in your destination, the TomTom Go is Ideal. you can still put in speed camera Poi's, and your own if needed.

It does what it says, it does. yes it as mapping errors, what system doesn't, but you can live with it.

As long as you use it for what it was intended, it will give you good navigation.

i've had one since July, and won't go back to normal maps. EVER.

Tom Tom Go is a good all rounder, a lot of people don’t realise until they buy a PDA if you don’t keep it charged you will loose everything. Tom Tom Go is designed for straight out the box navigation you don’t get features of PDA like:

prepare to-do lists, schedule appointments, keep track of projects, track expenditures
take notes, Connect to internet, browse web pages, send and receive emails, msn messenger
Answer calls via Bluetooth headsets. Word processing, Excel, Voice Memos
Play Mp3’s and movie files, Send and receives pictures via storage cards, Bluetooth, IR (if applicable)
But if you never used those features and would like to leave the GPS in the drawer for a while and use it only when you need to then the GO is the best for you.
