Tmobile MDA3 & TomTom3

A friend of mine has brought a Tmobile MDA3 package with TomTom navigator3 & wired receiver. He has been having problems getting the gps receiver connecting to his PDA, basically the default TomTom gps setting looks for a gps receiver to be on Com1, but this option doesn't appear to be available from the drop down list in the gps settings. Does anyone have one of these devices which I believe are the same as an XDA IIs, if so does the gps use a different com port?

Any help would be gratefully apreciated.

It could be COM2, or you may have to disable infrared to gain access to COM1
