Interesting to see the difference in the speed shown on the Ipaq and the car speedo.
The speedo shows at least 5 mph faster than the GPS system.

Can anyone suggest how long I need to drive for, at a steady pace, to be commfortable that the GPS speed shown is accurate.

I assume that the GPS is accurate!

regards

If you are speeding up or slowing down, or going up or down a hill then that'll put the GPS speed out, otherwise if you're driving on level ground at a steady speed it should be fine within a few seconds.

As long as you have been driving at a steady speed for about 5-8 secs I find that a GPS will give a accurate figure.

Remember that all car speedo's are set to give a slightly higher than real speed. Also if you have changed the size of tyres this will effect it along with the change in depth of tread! Just trust the GPS.

As a side note, I have always found that a Road Angel actualy adjusts your speed down! This means you could be doing a indicated 29 mph on the roadangel yet really be doing about 30.4 mph. Surely this should of been made the other way round?
