This is driving me crazy.
IPAQ 3870 bluetooth PPC 2002
TTN 3.03
Fortuna bluetooth Clip-on
This set-up worked OK but the IPAQ often needed a soft reset to get the bluetooth working.
Foolishly I gave the IPAQ a hard reset and re-installed the software. TT3 activated OK and works fine apart from I now have no GPS connection.
The IPAQ finds the Fortuna OK, I can bond and connect as a SPP, connect as a SIRF Bluetooth on Com 8 within TomTom GPS blue lights flashing everywhere. Everything looks fine except no info on the GPS screen and into TT3.
The Fortuna is OK as I checked it was working with a Map and Travel program on a laptop with a bluetooth dongle.
I also bonded to the IPAQ from the laptop and transferred some files so the bluetooth is working fine.........
Everything looks fine....it just doesn't work!
Any ideas? Oh, and since discovering this forum I know the bluetooth on the IPAQ 3870 isn't that reliable.....doh! |

SiRF is most probably wrong. Try NMEA 38400 _________________ Lutz

Thanks.
Unfortunately I've tried them all and still no joy.It was originally all working. The Fortuna is 38400 Baud NMEA.
Interestingly when you set another Baud rate the blue light on the Fortuna flashes which makes me think that it does that when it receives data and my problem is receiving data back from it and into TT3.
The Bluetooth Manager in the IPAQ reports that the device is bonded and I can set it as a SPP and get the little 2-way symbol next to it. The problem is possibly the com port that TT3 is linked to.
I'm not a huge expert on IPAQs but what I need is an IPAQ equivalent of hyperterminal on the PC to see what is going on. |

What happens if you try to run diagnostics against the GPS by connecting manually in say WinFast Navigator ? You should be able to see data coming down on the port and it will be a lot easier to diagnose what's at fault rather than just trying TomTom. It could be the wrong baud rate, or just that TomTom isn't seeing the correct COM port. |

There's a very easy way to reset a Clip On to NMEA 38400bps. Slide the mode switch to the other position, wait two seconds, then slide the mode switch back to where it was.
You should then find that the Clip On is then reset to factory defaults - which is NMEA 38400bps in both ST and XT modes.

I tried WinFast Navigator but still no go.
I reset the Clip-On by taking the batttery out....still no joy.
I delteted the TomTom GPS module and replaced it with the 2.07 version from the downloads section......no joy.
I gave up and went for a lie-down..........
When I tried later it was all working.......no idea why !!!
Thanks for all your help.
Bit nervous about upgrading my IPAQ to PPC2003 now! |

When you swap from one mode to another mode on the Fortuna Clip on, shouldn't you ( like the manual says) switch the power of first ?
If you didn't, what damage could be done ??? If any. _________________ Tom Tom Go 300

Unless you've broken the 'blocker' off the switch, you can't move the mode switch without turning off the Clip On first.
At least on my Clip On, there's a little piece stuck to the on/off switch that slides over the mode switch when you turn the GPS on.
