Hi
I would welcome information detailing the differance between the Tomtom HP Version software and Tomtom Navigator 3. I am considering loading the Tomtom HP Version onto my other PDA (Palm) (comany property) and was woundering if the HP Version software is written just for HP PDAs.
Thanks
Peter

The "HP version" is in fact the PPC port of the new rendering engine that is already present on the Palm, the GO , and the Smartphone. Version 4, so to speak.
However, this new version is feature reduced (in an effort to make it easier to use and to reduce support calls...) so it does look nicer than TTN3 but has less features.
Why the HP version is called TTN 2004 is beyond me. Maybe TomTom want to (re)introduce "The Grand New Version 4" at next year's CeBit.. _________________ Lutz

I've got the HP version and the main gripes I have are
1) no speed display and
2) no compass.
There are other bits cut out too, but having driven a thousand miles with it already (since Dec) these are the things I would really like. I think it is really shoddy that TomTom and HP don't point out clearly that this is a stripped version, with less features than the 'previous' version.
The speedcam overlay works fine btw
Hope that helps some

I believe Lutz is working on a comparison between TomTom Navigator 2004 USA/Canada and TomTom Navigator 2 USA.
Navigator 2004 is the same TomTom "common platform" software as is in the HP Navigation Pack in Europe. TomTom Navigator 2 and Navigator 3 (there was no Navigator 3 USA) are pretty much the same feature wise apart from Navigator 3 having itineraries and optional support for TomTom Traffic.
Lutz's article should therefore act as a good comparison of the HP Navigation Pack and TomTom Navigator 3.
I expect the replacement for TomTom Navigator 3 to be based on the HP Navigation Pack software - though I hope some of the features that are missing in this product compared to Navigator 3 will be added in before the new European version ships.
