Medion MDPNA 100 GPS (Halfords) software won't work

I am on my second Medion as the first one would not pick up a GPS signal and Medion authorised a return as their support line concluded the unit was faulty. I am now having the same problem with the new one. The software installs but the best I get is the small orange satellite on the screen indicating 0 satellites connected. I have tried taking it around outside but it makes no difference. I have reinstalled all the software but that did not work, and the manuals etc with the system are hopeless having, in the main, apparently been translated direct from the German version.

Can anyone help as I do not believe I have had two faulty systems. It looks like I have managed an incorrect installation for the second time.

Also will I get a GPS signal in the house?

if its a new device then you wont get a signal straight away id take it out to the car plug it in and leave it there or in the house with a good veiw of the sky for an hour or so are you sure the com port and baud rate are correct and is the gps enalbed in the gps software screen. Personally i hav e had any eperiance of the medion sofeware also could you pls update your profile with your location as it could help answer any questions

Thanks for the quick reply.

I have had the system on all night with no GPS connection. I live in the Nottingham area in a rural area and on a hill, so I would not have thought there were problems with signal strength. Also took the previous one out in the car and got no connection.

GPS is on
Baud rate is 4800
Com port is COM1

leaving it on is ok but it does need to have clear veiw of the sky some double glazing will lead to a reduced signal and some houses you wont get a signal if you leave it on leave it some where it has this clear veiw hopefully one the team or some one who knows more but try that for now

This sounds like a GPS 'mouse' based setup - with a cigarette lighter plug on the same cables that the GPS 'mouse' is connected to. If so, there has to be 12V power applied to the 'mouse' for the GPS hardware to work.

It's sometimes possible to get GPS reception in the house, but not always.

My suggestion is to apply 12V power with the GPS receiver having a good view of the sky and remain stationary for at least 15 minutes. You should then get a lock. If you don't get a lock then, try again with the GPS receiver on your roof. If you get a lock then, you've got an athermic windscreen - you need an external GPS antenna (if your GPS hardware has the ability to connect one) or a re-radiating GPS antenna. Don't leave the GPS 'mouse' on your roof - it's almost certainly not waterproof.

Thanks for all the help. I left the receiver outside in the garden for about an hour and it still did not appear to connect. I took it back inside and got a fix on 6 satellites almost straight away??? It now appears to work close to a window but not in the middle of the house and I have yet to try it in the car.

If you had power applied in the garden, I'm surprised - though if you had no power that's expected. You must have power on the cigarette lighter plug of a GPS mouse, otherwise the GPS hardware is off due to no power.
