I'm using a Sendo X phone to provide GPRS Internet access for the live traffic information on my TomTom Navigator 3 (Bluetooth GPS) set up. It works for a while - maybe half an hour and then the phone apparently stops accepting (*99#) GPRS dial commands via Bluetooth. The only solution is to power-cycle the phone. Any ideas anyone?

Are you using timed updates? I have a timed update every five minutes, and don't get any problems on Vodafone.
If you're updating on a more 'ad hoc' basis, there is software available that should 'keep alive' a GPRS connection by generating a small amount of traffic every few minutes. That said, the cost of updating every ten minutes or even every five minutes is that high.

I consistently have a similar problem.
I set-up the IPAQ and Phone connection (makes GPRS connection).
At some point during the journey the GPRS must die (TT updates traffic every 15 mins).
The Phone is not automatically re-dialled. At first I thought it was because the BT connection need to be accepted on the phone, I have now configured this.
There seems to be no way to automatically dial the GPRS code on teh phone , I always need to select the icon at the top of the screen and accept a lot of ipaq screens to make the connection.

My experience is that TomTom Navigator doesn't autodial for Traffic with Pocket PC 2003 on my iPAQ h3970, but does autodial with Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition - at least on my iPAQ hx4700.
The difference may be to do with the Bluetooth stack, but I think it more likely to be something to do with the operating system itself.

Although I haven't spent a lot of time on it yet, I still haven't managed to get the speed camera voice alert working with CheckPoint and the problem with establishing an update connection for the TomTom Traffic alert remains, but after a week of daily use of Navigator 3 to and from and in and around Cornwall, I'm very pleased with it so far.
It did take me down some very narrow lanes on occasions! But overall, I'm sure I have saved time and frustration using it.
The petrol station POIs are occasionally well out of date, but I suppose that is to be expected.
I think my wife wants one now

to get the speed camera voice alerts working I had to install the sound files in the same folder as the navigator sounds. Then open checkpoint by tapping on symbol bottom right when navigator and checkpoint running. Then go to overlay settings and tick the box to give warnings. Then it will let you select a sound file.
Hope this helps |
