Hi

Hopefully someone can help!

I've just bought Navigator 3 for my IPAQ 4150 and am using an Arkon powered GPS mount connected to the "docking" port at the botom of the IPAQ by a bespoke cable with a USB plug going into the Arkon unit.

I can't get the IPAQ to see the GPS reciever I assume I have the wrong port settings, but the Arkon unit says "connect through COM1" and my 4150 says "I don't have a COM 1!"

Any ideas what the settings should be?

Thanks

Your iPAQ is right. It doesn't have a serial port, so your serial GPS is useless.

Are you sure, Lutz? I thought the only iPAQs that lacked serial ports were in the 1900 series.

If you click here to go to the HP UK accessory store, it lists the folding keyboard as an accessory for the 4100 series, and that uses the serial port.

Has the original poster got a keyboard driver installed? If so, disable it and try again.

I looked it up in the quick specs on the HP site. They don't mention a serial port. I don't have a 4150, so I can't really say for sure.

Thanks for the advice - the problem was that my 4150 was on the original bios (1.00) and needed to be upgraded to 1.10 to "recognise" COM1 as a serial port!

I do know what you mean, Lutz - the HP QuickSpecs aren't always as helpful as they could be.

The way to know for sure is whether the port is "upside down" or not - but you need to know how to recognise the orientation of the port to check that. If you hold the Pocket PC with the screen uppermost, looking at the base, if the 'folded over' corners of the port are to the top, and the contacts on the central part of the connector are to the back, the iPAQ has a serial port. If these two are the other way around, the iPAQ doesn't have a serial port.
