Starting to hack me off now. When in navigator mode my compass direction keeps sticking at north !! All of a sudden the road you are driving on starts to tilt and the compass stays at north.
Doesn't do it all the time, but there is no logic to where it happens around the UK. Just done it tonight driving back to Lancashire from Bristol, was OK for 1st 100 miles or so and then it "stuck", but it was fine all the way down on the drive this morning.
I have stopped the car. Disconnected everything, reset the ipaq and it still happens. Now tomorrow when it fire it up it may still happen or it could be OK. Seems to be a lottery on that one.
I have an Ipaq 3870 with the Haicon 203e wired mouse GPS.
Any ideas? I have fiddled with all settings but no joy. I will post a picture next time it happens and I can take a clear picture as it just should not happen. |

Almost certainly the problem is an incorrect setting in TomTom GPS.
If you've chosen "Haicom GPS", that's wrong for a Haicom GPS where the model designator ends in E.
The "Haicom GPS" setting (or, for that matter, TomTom Navigator GPS) are actually settings for SiRF chipset GPSes - and TomTom GPS sends some SiRF configuration commands when they're selected. This can confuse an Evermore chipset GPS like your Haicom HI-203E.
If you go into GPS, go to the second tab, tap the box at the top left to untick it, change the top box to "NMEA 0183v2 4800" and check that the lower setting still refers to COM1, then put the tick back in the box, hopefully this will be the end of your problem.

Just been for a quick spin around the block :D
It seems to have cleared it but took a while. At first I was still stuck at north. The other odd thing was that I was showing 77mph even when stationary.
I changed the settings you mentioned, but it was still locked north. I reset it but still locked. It only cleared when I disconnected the power to the GPS mouse and then did a reset.
Anyway, navigator mode was back to direction of travel, I will see how it goes over the next few days.
Thanks for the advice. |

Sorry to say this is still happening. Works fine for ages and then compass just sticks to North.
I find if I stop, disconnect the GPS mouse and reset the Ipaq it will clear 75% of the time, but it is a hassle.
Even added Tom Tom Traffic and it still does it. |
