Hi
Do I re-install maps from cd to storage card as TT will not open following upgrade or can I re-activate maps already installed?
Thanks |

You can also just fix the registry pointer. _________________ Lutz

Hi
Looks a bit complicated to me (beginner), is there an easier way to get TTN3 running again. If I reinstall from cd will it revert to version 3.01 or can I install maps only.
Beginning to wish I had stuck with earlier version
Thanks keeef |

Re-installing your existing map doesn't really help.
Try installing a small map in addition to the one you have already. Then see if you can switch to the newly added map _________________ Lutz

I've got the same problem (reloaded tt3 to use a replacement wired receiver) - managed to fix it first time by copying a small map from the sd card into my docs on the ipaq.
Then upgraded to 3.03 and got a slightly different eror message, but suggesting the same problem "No maps found, please install and activate an original TomTom Navigator 3 map first."
It doesn't matter if I install direct to the ipaq, to the sd card via an external reader, or to a folder on the pc (and then copy to the sd card) - i get the same message.
I tried reinstalling the maps from my tt3 cd - and that made no difference.
I used the recommended Reg Editor, and the map string seems to point to the correct location.
Any ideas?. |

Ooh and there's also one in the "root" of the mobile device - ie. navigating using Win XP "My Computer", Mobile Device, My Pocket PC (shows modified today 5/12/04).
The one in My Docs also shows create today / modified today. |

oh well - I give up (sorry Lutz) my patience is really short with these things!.
I finally decised to uninstall the Tom Tom / GPS / Wizard & Voice apps again, and this time deleted all TomTom registry keys under HKLM & HKCU. This then allowed me to reinstall v3.0 succesfully - I haven't the courage to attempt to upgrade to 3.03 again yet!.
The only problem now, is that I was a bit hasty in my rage, and think I've deleted all copies of my POI's (stored in a My Favourite Locations folder). |

Favourites go in the settings files - which makes them rather vulnerable. Like quite a few people, I only set the home favourite and have a personal POI category for everything else, which is much easier to manipulate, back up and hold on to in the event of settings files or similar mishaps.
You really want to get to at least Navigator 3.03 if you're in the UK - that's the first version of Navigator 3 with the 'fixed' address lookup.

thanks David - I did create a special folder of POI's, but can't find it on my PC or PDA. I deleted my Great_Britain Navigator Map folder on my SD card, and then reinstalled a file with the same name, so supect if it was in there, it's unrecoverable!.
Any idea where it normally gets put during an active sync, or what it mght be called?
Cheers

POIs go in the map folder as .ov2 files (data) and .bmp (associated icon). If you deleted your map folder and had no backup, they're gone.
POI files are not synchronised using the Files feature of ActiveSync, as that only synchronises files in \My Documents. If you want to synchronise files from elsewhere, check out MightySync, which works via ActiveSync. The user interface is a bit quirky, but it works well and it's cheap.
