Hi all,

I've put up with disabling POI's, and the forced BT reconnection everytime it drops (every 5 mins at times) together with the annoying iPAQ bleet every time it does it - for far too long now.

Much as I loved TT2 and now TT3, I don't use it much anymore because the niggles make it too frustrating. I can't understand how something that cost so much money, can work as if it's held together with sticky tape and string.

I think my only hope of rescuing my relatiuonship with TT is to give up on the BT receiver, and buy / install a wired unit.

I can't tell from the reviews whether this will just work, or it'd be to complicated to get it working. Any suggestions on make model (ideally cheap!).

Oh, I should add that I'm using the TT "standard" car mount held on to windcreen with a sucker. The mount appears to have an RJ45 connector on the side, to connect (I assume) to the standard wired TT receiver.

I'd like to retain this mount, rather than buy a new receiver and mount...

Cheers

Incidentially the wired TT receiver is pretty good (a rebadged Leadtek). And it has the RJ11 (not RJ45) connector that you can plug directly into the mount.

Just to add to Lutz's comments...

After 6 months of being taken out of lorry cabs and unceremoniously shoved in my bag every day. one of the wires broke in the RJ11 connector...the braid one. Basically the cable worked itself loose from the grip in the connector.

Went to Maplins, bought a cheap crimping tool and a RJ11 plug and redid it myself. Took 5 minutes, cost about £8 for everything and was incredibly easy. Got a spare connector for the next time it happens although this one seems to have crimped tighter.

It is a damned sight cheaper than forking out for a new one or someone to repair it.
