When will Tomtom offer either of the following (if at all!)
1) Tomtom mobile shipped on a miniSD card (why should I have to buy another SD card simply to make it work on my C500?)
2) Tomtom mobile without the GPS BT unit. OK I haven't got a BT unit but I would like to buy the Holux BT unit over the TT unit.

Hey,
I can answer some mate.
1. It does seem a bit odd to have to now buy another SD card to suite a different phone. Wonder if TomTom could maybe setup an exchange option to swap one card for another at a decent price for legitimate customers. WOuld help them keep business.
2. The reason for this is quite simple, TomTom do not have any security software coding in their program to stop any unwanted usage.
What they do implement is that their software will only work with their own, genuine GPS unit. Hence making sure users are, to a degree, genuine buyers.
But, having said that you can quite easily buy a TomTom unit from Ebay for £80 - £100 gbps's which opens up other options.
Hope this helps a little?

I think mainly because there is no answer. TomTom have made it policy to only sell their BT GPS which nets them probably a little more of a return in terms of profit and allows for locking of the device. In terms of C500, TomTom will at some point announce support for the C500, but whether they will offer MiniSD cards, I can't say for sure. Obviously the later patched version does work with the C500, but IMO I've always found it much better using your own larger SD card or Mini-SD card and buying one to suite your needs. Sure you waste the 128mb card that comes with it, but I guess you could use it as a backup, or wipe it clean and use it for something else. |
