pda/pocket pc sotware advice

I,ve decided a pda/pocket pc with built in GPS(possibly an IQUE 3600) is what i need, but i'm confused about the software packages and need advice.
I need to load detailed OS type maps but can i only use the manufactures software or can i use third party maps or even load my own?

The iQUE is not a Pocket PC - it's a Palm based device. As such you are limited to programs that run on the Palm. I am not even sure Garmin allow other programs on the iQUE.
