It is not universal !!
Every manufacturer use different pin-outs.
RJ11 is used only because it is cheap and readily available but it is not like a say, 13amp plug that you must put which pin to which.
You are out of luck here unless you find someone who has the same systems as yours and is a competant/knowledgeable DIYer and willing to share the information with you. _________________ Pc-Mobile

I understood that there was a defacto standard emerging?
If not, do you know what the pinouts used by Tomtom are?
Unfortunately I'm dealing with the input side, not the gps output, otherwise it would only take a moment to work it out.

We have no knowledge of it.
So it has to come from "someone who has the same systems as yours and is a competant/knowledgeable DIYer and willing to share the information with you." _________________ Pc-Mobile

OK, I got my meter out and sorted it myself thanks.
If anyone may be interested the following works for me:-
RJ11 4 wire, numbering from the left looking from the back of the plug with the clip at the top:-
X
1, +V power to GPS
2, RX, data from GPS
3, TX, data to GPS
4, Common ground
X

So it is easy!
That's what you should have done in the first place. _________________ Pc-Mobile

That doesn't seem analogous to re-inventing the wheel, that's far too complex a task.
It seems more like having a marketing envelope in front of you addressed to 'The Occupier' and asking your neighbour what is in his letter because it's too much effort for you to open the envelope.
When the guy can't tell you you then open the envelope yourself. |

Every make of GPS has different pin-outs.
Surya did not say what his GPS was.
You did not say what your GPS is.
The chance of getting your GPS to work with his pin-outs is really very small.
If I were you, I would consult the GPS manufacturer (may be in the manual) rather than wasting your time. _________________ Pc-Mobile
