ive recently installed the new update: tomtom.mobile.v4.43+traffic.plugin

it works fine,but then the file was only 27mb so i knew it didnt have any maps with it. in the readme text file it said that "This release support all the PPC Maps"

i installed the update then i moved the "Great-Britain-Map" folder from the original tomtom mobile back into the mmc card in the root directory as like the previous tomtom.

when i started it up,it came up with a different start-up menu and it was working fine,until the "no maps" screen came up after it and i realised that the maps from the v4.40 tomtom mobile was not compatible with the v4.43.

i asked a few people and they said that the v4.43 used the tomtom navigator maps.i had the new UK tomtom navigator 3 cd with me,so i looked through the files in the cd.and came across this folder "Maps"

which contained 5 more folders:
GB
gb16
gb32
gb64
mre

in the GB folder contained
Great_Britain.bmp (bitmap image)
Great_Britain.cfg (configuration settings)
Great_Britain.cab (cab file)

and i was able to open the Great_Britain.cab with winrar.
inside that was:

00000poi.011
000cline.006
000cname.002
000cnode.003
000faces.004
0mapinfo.005
0traffic.010
GREAT_~1.000
GREAT_~1.001
GREAT_~1.007
tmccodes.008
tmcpaths.009

i made a folder in my mmc,"Gb-maps" and put them files in there.................but it still said the same thing......."no maps",so now im confused!
are the maps meant to be in a different format?
or does anybody know where i can download the GreatBritain PPC map from?

thanks[/img]

You cannot simply extract the contents of the CAB file onto the MMC card. You need to use the setup program to install the files properly. They get renamed during installation, and all the instructions are in the .000 file. (So if you really have nothing better to do you can also rename the ones you have extracted accordingly)

I wouldn't have changed anything on the MMC without copying it first.

I believe the maps in TomTom Mobile are more up to date than those on TomTom Navigator 3 for the Pocket PC - so am bemused as to why you're trying to replace your existing maps with the Navigator 3 maps, other than you having apparently corrupted your existing maps. I haven't heard anyone else mention that the latest software requires maps that many other TomTom Mobile customers won't have.

If you want an installable copy of the Navigator 3 maps, you can get them through the Navigator 3 installer - there's an option to copy the map to a storage card. You can't (easily) hack the appropriate files out of the CAB file manually.

It sounds like you may have someone not installed the TomTom Mobile update correctly. EXE files install via ActiveSync, CAB files via the file manager or similar on the device (at least, that's how things work on the Pocket PC). You can't install a map CAB file this way, though - it's too large.

I'd contact TomTom Support for help - they can hopefully do one of exchange, erase and recopy or send you an image of the memory card.

I had the same problem too. The first thing to be careful of is the structure of the Tomtom folders which need to be copied onto the mini-sd. Ensure that the folders '2577', 'tomtom', 'ttmobile', and your map folder each show as separate folders in the root directory of the card.
Rename, the UK map files as follows:

File000=setup.dat
File001=Great_Britain.pna
File002=cname.dat
File003=cnode.dat
File004=faces.dat
File005=mapinfo.dat
File006=cline.dat
File007=Great_Britain.mid
File008=tmccodes.pr3
File009=tmcpaths.bfl
File010=traffic.dat
File011=poi.dat

See if this helps.

i see what you guys are saying.

and simontan i tried to rename all the files as to the ones that you reccomended,but when i started up the program it just gave me an error sound and came up with "app.closed" and just shut off.

i think for the moment ill stick with the v4.40 tomtom mobile.

but has anybody actually tried the v4.43? or managed to get it working?

apparently its a bit more efficent and has update traffic updates plug-in.

also cheers for the help guys

(lucky i did make a copy of my mmc beforehand davidw Smile )

If you really want to install the TTN3 maps to your smartphone, why not connect it to your pc via ActiveSync? The TTN3 installer will run the pocketpc installer via ActiveSync to your smartphone's memorycard. You can add the GB map or partial map.
No need to manually unpack or rename the files.

TomTom does have a repair service in place, just contact them and ask for a repair of your mmc. You will be asked to return your card, and within 5-10 days your mmc is replaced with the original map and application.

I would think you already had the map with app 4.40, why else would you update? It doesn't sound like you downloaded from TomTom's website, as TomTom would never include a readme file saying "This release support all the PPC Maps", even though it's true.
