I have just bought this product and am not happy with it. I won't bore you with all the problems. But the first problem was i had 2 install discs instead of install and maps. Nothing works first time. The text to speech voice is just appalling and so far i have failed to change the voice files to the pre recorded ones. Have just sent a letter to alk letting them know i am not happy. Has anyone else had these problems?.

When I bought CP4 I was unable to make the wave voice work and, like you, was less than happy with the text to speech voice. ALK were helpful, but unable to fix it. But since upgrading to CP5 the wave voice has worked perfectly

If you're not happy then I suspect this won't add much value, but after loading the UK male TTS voice I found it difficult at first, became accustomed to it quite quickly and now find some of it's odd pronunciations slightly endearing. (Meeeless being the classic.)

Just a thought

Well, my problems with the text to speech voice were
a) I used CP4 mainly in Wales and France. Attempts to pronounce Welsh or French road names were laughable
b) More importantly, the time taken to get out the longwinded instructions was so great that in towns I had usually passed the junction before he got to the punch line
I find the recorded wave voice MUCH better

You should hear the way it pronounces German names. I get the laughs every time. All you have to do however is to re-install it with German (French or whichever you want. wouldn't help in Wales though) setup language and street names come pronounced correctly. I've suggested ALK to separate the interface and fixed direction language (two hundred metres ahead turn left on.." from the actual local names language. That way you could have the basic language in English and get the correct pronounciation of street names automatically depending on the current location - enter France and you get french pron for street names, drive through Germany and german TTS is used for street names. At the expense of several TTSes in the memory. Unfortunately, ALK don't think it would be good to have (not on their feature list, I was told).
Otherwise, I prefer TTS although sometimes it does take too long - it barely finishes the 200 metre warning when its time to repeat everything all over again from the "just ahead".
In my view a bigger problem is that the TTS doesn't say whats in the brackets ( e.g. turn left on B2 (Mittlerer Ring) - is spoked up to B2).

Cheers,
Eriks
