I have a TT3 Upgrade running on an Ipaq 3870. Overall I find the product a lot less stable than the TomTom 2 I upgraded, but I have learned to live with it. (I must do an Ipaq reset everytime I stop and start the engine or it locks up my TT3).
Anyway while I can put up with this I have had terrible problems with the TomTom ~GPS drivers since I went to TT3. I have a Haicon 203e wired GPS, which is starting to show some Sun Damage (http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=4213&sid=1c79498b6fc2081f6d65cdbfdb51b8b3) but it still works fine. However I can only use the 2.07 TomTom ~GPS driver. I've tried every other new GPS driver since and they all cause lots of problems. I get displays that show me driving 180 degrees in the wrong direction, to turning my direction on the map 90 degrees to the right and even just stifting the map left so it looks like I am driving over fields. I am getting between 7-10 on the satellite fixes too.
But if I swap back to dependable 2.07 it works fine again.
I know I have a workable solution but does anybody else have these problems, or know why this happens. I wouldn't like to think I am missing out on something by not having the latest GPS driver. |

There is no 2.07 TomTom ~GPS driver. The tilde is a sign for that foolish wizard that was introduced later. If you still see TomTom ~GPS in the list of installed programs then you need to remove that.
I would suggest you accept that version 2.07 works perfectly, and fight the itch to install anything newer - there is no functionality gain in these newer GPS drivers that would justify their installation over 2.07.
I know this is contrary to the conventional belief that newer versions are supposed to be better. But hey, TomTom are not a conventional company, and sometimes live in their own dream world. _________________ Lutz

Strange as I only have GPS 2.07 loaded now and my list of programs shows TomTom ~ GPS ??
I also have -
TomTom Navigator
TomTom Wizard
TomTom Navigator Voice
and that is all the TomTom listings. |

Exactly what I am talking about. Both the TomTom ~GPS and the Wizard are traces of newer GPS versions. You need to lose them both, and re-install 2.07 _________________ Lutz

Still getting issues with 2.07 ? At the moment my navigator view seems to be stuck with a NORTH compas position.
I am on the correct position on the map but I am always pointing north, so it's quite hard to navigate.
I know the mapview is set to always be north, but I always though navigation was direction of travel !! And there was no way to set the navigation screen any other way !! |

If your 3D Navigator view is indeed north up then you are either driving towards the north or you have hit one of these "This error should never occur" situations.
It's not a function of the GPS driver though. Maybe the GPS stream is missing speed information? _________________ Lutz

Just as a side thought, all this has happened since I got a new car. I have moved from having the GPS tucked up in the sunroof of a Renault Laguna to now be on the rear screen of a BMW ? Does the heated rear screen have any influence on the GPS signal?
My old Laguna was a nightmare because of the thermal windscreen, but it worked brilliantly up in the sunroof.
All this said though, I still get between 7-10 fixes on the satellites on the rear screen of the BMW.
Also this pointing compass north is an intermittant problem which sometimes changes "mid route", although I have not managed to get it off of this setting since Saturday.
I would rather have it tucked away on the rear shelf than the windscreen though. |
