hello i have just installed tomtom3 with checkpoint in my wifes pda the main reason is to detect speed cameras for her question can the navigator be used whilst she is just driving around ie telling us where the speed cameras are

Yes, just turn it on!

Or, more accurately, turn it on, then go to Navigator view and tap Turn Guidance Off. Then it will jusy dispay a map showing your current position and the POIs you have selected (eg safety cameras) will show up as normal
