Hi everybody! I got a Navman 4410 + iPaq 2210 + SmartST v2 sp2. It works but not so fine. Sometime it misses location (i.e. after a tunnel) and I have to wait a lot of time before it gets the position again. Any suggestion? |

You need to give the GPS receiver a better view of the sky by the sound of it. Where is it currently positioned and how many satellites do you normally show as using (Green segments)? _________________ Tim |

Tim
Does SP3 apply to the software in question
if it doesn't then but if it does then perhaps it might benefit Sandro to download the SP as one of it's attributes is to help with acquisition times isn't it

Hi Alfie,
No, SP3 is for the iCN range only. SP2 is the latest for the PPC version of the software. _________________ Tim |

Ah Well it was just a thought. Still I'm sure somebody will sus out Sandro's problem for him, it's not something I've ever come across using tthe iCN, although I am not really sure if SP3 does give you a quicker GPS acquisition time. I went out the other morning and from the time I switched on outside of my garage until I got a fix was a good five minutes, admittedly I was driving.
Regards

Well, it has a Garmin external antenna connected, positioned (the antenna) under the windshield. It has large view of the sky ( I got also the telepass tx on the windshield and it works, so the windshield it is not termal shielded), and it "catches" about 6 satellites, but all yellow. It happens that suddendly it looses the position (also under open sky) and gains the new position after a lot of time (obviously I'm moving with the car). Is it normal? (I hope no, of course). Is it up on the bluetooth connection? Or is it due to a software bug (it has satellites, but doesn't use them)? Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thank you |

I will experiment with my Navman BT unit this evening and let you know my results somethime tomorrow.
What is a Telepass TX, by the way? Is it a reradiating antenna? It couldb be that by using the external antenna, albeit inside the car, and a reradiating antenna that you're confusing the GPS, as it would be getting each signal twice! _________________ Tim

I'm a bit confused by this :?:
You have a Bluetooth receiver so why use an external antenna? |

The telepass is transmitter / receiver device who communicates with the motorway manager and allows you to get in/out from motorway without stop for paying. It should work on a different frequency from GPS. Anyway I checked again the communication parameters and the trouble seems to be the baud rate of the comm port (COM8:). It was set on 38400 but the navman needs 57600. I tried just this morning and all seems to work fine. I have only to test on get in/out from a tunnel. I will let you know about this test. Thank you for your help! |

Well, I have a NavMan 4410 GPS. It communicates with the iPaq 2210 by means of a bluetooth connection. The external antenna is connected by means of a shielded cable to the GPS unit and has the aim of enhancing the capability of the GPS to get more satellites. |

Hi Sandro,
Good to see that your peformance is better now that you have the correct baud setting. Also, I now understand that your Telepass isn't a re-rad so this shouldn't pose a problem. Please do let us know how your tunnel test went. I used to have my external antenna inside the boot window, but have now moved it onto the roof as it gives much better performance outside the car. _________________ Tim |
