I have a question concerning power off of the 510. I input a destination and drive to it. When I get there, I try to shut off the power by holding down the power button for a minute but it won't shut off. I delete the route and hold the Power button and still no P/O. Hold Home button down and reset but still no P/O. I have to switch off the battery on the back to kill the 510. Anyone else have this problem/feature? Thanks |

I suggest that if it happens again (I'd actually try to create another route and see if you can make the problem repeat), to return your unit for a replacement where you purchased it or contact Navman for techincal assistance, warranty repair, or replacement.
Good luck mate! |

This isn't normal and in all my driving and testing of the iCN510 I haven't experienced this problem at all. I've never had to hard reset (using the switch on the back). |

I know this sounds stupid but I think I did exactly the same as you when I first got mine - I held the button down for more than a couple of seconds and it wouldn't turn off.
Now, I turn it off each time by simply pressing very briefly on the on/off button - just a quick press does the trick..
Might be worth trying this before you take or send it back.

Thanks for the replies. I should have said that the first attempt to power off, I just touched the power button and it wouldn't shut off. Then I went through the sequence as stated before. I called Tech Support (USA) and they said that they have seen this before and if I have this problem again, to reset using the indented reset button on top of the unit and NOT to shut off via the battery switch in the back. I'll try that next time. |

Dad also had this problem with his 2 days ago. It just refused to shut off at all.
I must say, we aren't entirely happy with the unit. It keeps coming up with a Windows CE Critical Error and is sometimes incredibly laggy before doing anything. The routes it's choosing aren't exactly wonderful either. It's sent him down dirt-tracks a couple of times now. |

There is a setting to Avoid Unsurfaced Roads. Have you ensured that box is checked? _________________ Tim |

A couple of times and it's definately ticked. We've tried playing round with different variations of more/less urban and freeways as well as shortest and quickest. |

Can you post the coordinates of those unsurfaced roads? We can check them on our devices to see if we get the same result.
They could be a TeleAtlas error, if they are incorrectly classified then the software will use them no matter what boxes you check. _________________ Ian.

adwhitworth, have you had any more bad experiences with the routing. I've been using V2 in Italy and the routing is farcical (constant routing down roads that don't exist, down dirt tracks, down dead ends, taking you off a main road through villages only to return to the same main road (which is neither quicker or shorter) plus others. Obviously the roads that don't exist are a map problem but before shelling out for V3 one needs to know whether the routing is much improved.
Can anybody out there using V3 let us know how succesful the rouitng is ?
Thanks |
