Streets and Trips 2005 + Magellan Problem

Hi, I'm new to this forum and have searched for answers to this problem but can't find any. I'm trying to get streets and trips 2005 to recognize my magellan meridian gold and I am having no luck. I have it connected to a usb port with a usb-serial adapter cord. I could only get one com port recognized (com 3) until I d/l a usb serial adapter driver from serialio.com. Now it recognizes com3 and com4 when I try to configure the gps but it says there is no gps device present on either port. I've set the port baud rate and gps baud rate to 9600. I have the gps NMEA turned on to V2.1GSA. Any ideas to steer me in the right direction? Magellan tells me it should work. Microsoft support is no help as of yet.

follow up....I have changed my baud rate and flow control in port setting and it seems to be working now.
