Hi all.

Completely new to this so excuse ignorance. I have an IPAQ 3900 series with TomTom 3 installed. I have been playing about with it for the last few weeks without a receiver but with the receiver set as a TomTom receiver and it has been performing fine. I have now obtained a Haicom receiver so changed the setting to Haicom on COM 3. Navigator now takes about 5 minutes to load and switching between screens takes ages. I unplugged the receiver and it was still the same. I have tried freeing up memory, all to no avail until I set the reciever back to TomTom again.

Is this normal? Do I need to buy a TomTom receiver in order fo it to work properly? Any advice appreciated.

The symptoms point to a slow SD card, assuming that you have the map data installed there.

Try defragging the card or install the maps onto another card, and see if it helps.

Thanks for the advice. i was tinkering today and found it was the port setting that was causing the problem. When I selected Hiacom as my GPS device it defaulted to COM3 and it seemed to work so I left it. When I changed it to COM1 it still receives signals and works fine.
