I have an Embedded Visaul Basic application on a PDA. I want to be able to capture location information and pass it to this application. I then want to be able to group (some of) these locations and pass them back into some sort of SatNav application (possibly as POIs) such that I can form a string of locations to visit.

Ideally I would like all of this functionality to be contained within the PDA but, if necessary, it would be acceptable to pass the data between different bits of equipment using either infra-red or bluetooth (to the PDA) or via a PC.

(a) - Is what I want to do possible?
(b) - If so, what hardware and/or software should I consider?

Any help would be gratefully received!

TIA

Doug

You should be able to accomplish all of this with the TomTom SDK. It allows you to extract positional data and also to create POI's etc. It even has quite a good manual and is very easy to implement.

Does using the TomTom SDK require you to use TomTom in the finished app? And is there a cheaper (e.g. FREE) way of extracting coordinates from within either eVB or VB.NET?

Obviously you need TomTom to be able to use the TomTom SDK. As for getting co-ordinates out in a different way, for free, then the only option really is to simply read the incoming NMEA data from the GPS, but then you'll have nowhere to send it to, as your app will be tying up the COM port and the SatNav won't be able to read it.

The SDK isn't really that expensive and if you want to do these kinds of things then TomTom is the only answer really.
