i have purchased tom tom mobile for smartphone and now its not supporting the c500 and only the spv e200 so far..have i made a boo boo..perhpas u could offer some advice as to which is the most comprehensive and best of them to use.

1. The best mapping

2. the best supported

or in the long run would it have been better to go the PDA route and use tom tom navigator 3 so u can use the third party stuff

thanks all

Hi,

I believe that there is a problem with the C500 displaying certain graphics, and this problem affects a number of programs as well as TomTom Mobile.

You have the option of waiting for a fix to allow TTM to run on the C500 or do something else.

Over the last weekend, Bo Peep and I have run CoPilot5 and TTNav3 (both on separate PDAs) at the same time, in the same vehicle. At this point I will admit to being a long term TT user and I’ve only just got CoPiolt5. All of my observations are based on the PDA versions.

TTNav is more intuitive that CoPilot. You can use TomTom straight out of the box, whereas you have to glance through the manual for CoPilot.

You have more information on the screen in TTNav (Satellite strength, Speed, ETA, total mile left, time left, etc.) than you do with CoPilot.

This next statement may upset some people; I actually prefer the map data of TTNav. CoPilot and TTNav get roughly the same number of road priorities right and wrong (although on different road junctions) as each other. The presentation of the screen is much better in TTNav, i.e. when you’re on a dual carriageway TTNav shows two parallel road. It does show rivers as you cross them (over bridges of course). ;)

TTNav has decent dynamic POIs, CoPilot requires you to reload the map data.

In TTNav, the icon depicting you is always in the same position on screen and the map moves in real time to your true heading. In CoPilot the icon moves up and down the screen, which we both found quite off putting.

However, CoPilot has much more up-to-date maps. It has the M6 Toll, it has better Ireland mapping and it has the Channel Islands, which TomTom doesn’t.

Regards,
