Hey all

Anyone know if an XDAII and a Haicom HI-201E are compatible?

I've been given the mouse, so rather than look a gift horse in the mouth I bought a cable for the car which connects both together and charges from cigarette lighter

I have installed TomTom3 and the GPS server, disabled the dreaded 'beams' on the XDA2 to free up COM1, turned off sleep mode and set it running, but there's no traffic between the two devices on the first GPS tab (i.e. no dotted lines).... it was at this point I thought I had better ask for help ;)

If they aren't compatible I'll go and buy a HI-204s, but I thought it worth a shot as it was free !! Smile

TIA

Rob

The 201-E used the evermore chipset which has not appeared in new units for some time now.

It is possible that the unit has failed, certainly that model suffered more failures than most when it was released. You could use an app such as Winfats Navigator to verify communication but if that fails I would recommend you get a better receiver, ideally Bluetooth.

Thanks for your reply Smile

I agree that it is possible that the unit has failed, but since it was working when the last owner last used it, I am willing to give it the benefit of the doubt for the moment (or at least until I am thoroughly "£$$%£ off with it) *grins*

What I really need to know first (and the reason for my original post) is if the HI-201E is compatible with the XDA II or not?

Obviously if it isn't compatible then I am wasting my time, if it is however then it may be that I am suffering config problems?

Thanks for the advice though, I'll look into trying Winfats Navigator and find out if the unit is actually defuncto Smile

There is no reason it will not work if you have the correct cables.
(excluding faulty cables/GPS)

It may be the configuration of your XDA/software that may be the problem.
XDA, and probably XDA2 are notorious that when IR is active it blocks the com port from connecting to other serial device.

Goto Settings>connections>Beam and uncheck recive IR beam and see if it make any difference.

Thanks for the reply

As i said in my original post, I have already disabled the IR port

If you say the 201e should work with my XDAII then great, thank you!! At least i know that it is possible!

Cheers,

Rob
