Which Bluetooth GPS Receiver ?

Hi,

I have been reading lots about Bluetooth GPS receivers over the past few weeks on many different websites and forums, and have still not come to a decision on which one to get....so I have decided that it is time to ask those in the know. Smile

I have an Orange SPV-M1000 (which is very similar to the O2 XDA II) which is running Windows Mobile 2003.

I will mainly use the GPS in the car, so accuracy and sensitivity at speed is important, but battery life is also slightly important. I guess I will use it on foot from time to time, but not that much really.

I think I have finally managed to narrow it down to a shortlist of 3:

1) Emtac Bluetooth GPS Receiver
2) Fortuna Clip-On
3) Globalsat BT-308

Which of the above do you recommend, or is there a better one in the same price range (max £125 inc good old vat) that you can recommend ?

The thing putting me off the Fortuna Clip-On is that I have read that it is not that accurate when not using X-Trac mode, and is laggy when using the X-Trac mode.

I have read good reviews about the Royaltek BlueGPS RBT-3000, which I think is the same as the Pretec Bluetooh GPS, but I didn't want to spend that much on a GPS Receiver....well I did, but my wife won't let me. ;)

Since starting to write this, I have also read that the Fortuna GPSmart is quite accurate and has a good sensitivity rating.

I didn't think buying a GPS Receiver would be so involved. 8O

In terms of reliability then I'd go for the Emtac. In terms of battery life out of the above, the GlobalSat will probably be the best.

If you want to be totally covered on long jaunts where you don't have a power cable, e.g. hiking, then go for the Navman 4100 as this comes with regular battery support so you can just take some other alkaline batteries with you.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the information.

I was going to go for the Fortuna, because of the replacable battery, but the test I have read with the accuracy and sensitivity put me off.

Most of the time it will be used in the car, so I can use the Cigarette lighter charger, so accuracy and reliability is more important to me.

I will have a look for a few prices and reviews on the NavMan too.

I use the fortuna clipon and have no problems with accuracy at all. the xtrac mode is a bit slow but thats to be expected as its using data that would normally be ignored.

I use the Navman 4100 and I have no problems with it it is both sensitive and accurate. plus the std AA batteries last in excess of 15 hours usage.

I'm not suggesting you buy it but just letting you know it is reliable.

Damn.... it uses AAA batteries. Either Alkaline or rechargable.
