BT308 - line of sight

hi

i am thinking of upgrading to this bluetooth model.

does it need line of sight to get a fix or will it work from a pocket/glovebox/rucsac?

to get a fix requires better visibility than to keep a fix. This is because initially the receiver needs to completely download the missing tables, afterwards only the deltas. "Line of sight" is maybe the wrong term. "unobstructed sky view" is better.

The receiver may get a fix in a glove box, but it will take longer. And if you are moving while getting a fix it will take even longer.

Backpacks are normally not a problem unless by accident the receiver sits under some kind of metallic hood (think cooking pot).I always put the receiver in a separate pocket on top of the backpack so it is protected from the elements ( ie water) and still has the premium sky view.
