|
|
Got my CoPilot 5 upgrade but cannot uninstall Desktop version of 4.5.
Tried Add/Remove Programs but just returns to desktop without any action and 4.5 still works as usual. Assume there's a problem with Uninstaller files so, tried reinstalling from CD but get 'Feature Transfer Error' 'Error 2 Transform Package' Huh??
Tried Modify, and then Repair, from CD Maintenance feature but get same error.
Anyone got any ideas or am I going to have to wait until ALK come back to work on Tuesday? |

have you looked in the CoPilot directory to see if there is an uninstaller in there? _________________ Ipaq 3970, Ipaq 2210 X2, Smart ST V1, Tomtom V3+V5, CoPilot V5, AA Navigator, Tomtom Bluetooth GPS, Navman 3450i Jacket, Navman Bluetooth GPS, Holux GM270, Fortuna GPS-PocketXtrack

Clivers,
I've looked in the Program Files/CoPilot Live/... for something with an inst or uninst file name but found nothing. At one point I did get an error message which pointed to
C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Installer\{D9CA2E0D......}\2057.mst
and that file is there.
The funny thing is that trying to do an uninstall from the Add/Remove programs, it looks for a file on my Floppy Drive (!?) and then gives up. With the CD rom in place, it finds whatever file it's looking for and then gives the Transform error message.
Weird isn't it? |

have you run the cd and seen if it offers an uninstall feature like repair of modify? _________________ Ipaq 3970, Ipaq 2210 X2, Smart ST V1, Tomtom V3+V5, CoPilot V5, AA Navigator, Tomtom Bluetooth GPS, Navman 3450i Jacket, Navman Bluetooth GPS, Holux GM270, Fortuna GPS-PocketXtrack

Don't beat yourself up about uninstalling 4.5. I installed directly over the top, and it does put it into a seperate directory so you should in theory be able to delete the old directory once 5 is installed.
Same goes for the PPC, although it's advisable to uninstall, I just re-installed over the top. |

Dave,
Thanks for the reply - I managed to uninstall 4.5 eventually by using V-Com's Systemsuite uninstaller and then going thru the Registry looking for CoPilot 4.5 (dangerous stuff I know but I seem to have got away with it)
Having installed CoPilot 5, I've now got another problem in that after 15 seconds from starting, the Desktop application gives an error message that CoPilot has caused an error in <unknown> and will close. If I click on Close, it shuts down, but if I ignore the message and leave it on the desktop, CoPilot works fine. Any ideas what might be causing this? I've tried un- and re-installing a couple of times but no luck. Seems like maybe a certain feature is trying to load in the background and when it can't find something it falls over. I'm using Windows ME by BTW.
Beginning to wish I'd stuck with 4.5 although I do like the new PocketPC version - great improvement. |

The error message might be from a remnant of your previous installation, which was not completely removed. It may have nothing to do with your new CP5 installation, which is why it continues working

Things are going from bad to worse. I've pinned down the error message to the 'Live' function. If I turn it on in Tools/Options/Live I don't get the error - turn it off and back comes the error.
So...., I thought I'd uninstall and start over - except that it won't uninstall. Same problems as I had with trying to uninstall 4.5. Think I'm going to have to ask for help from ALK when they come back to work tomorrow. Maybe I've got a bigger problem with the Windows Installer program? That's a bit beyond my abilities so I'll have to get some expert help I think.
I'll let you know what happens. |

I would just have to wait a while, or reboot, before trying again. I configured the Live function a few days ago and have not seen the error since. _________________ Kam |

Yes, I'm still in trouble! The more I dug around in my Windows ME I discovered things were not as well as I thought they were. So decided to install a fresh copy of Widows using my recovery disc. I'm getting things back to normal slowly and all my old applications are now up and running again.
Have just tried to install CoPliot 5 which still won't run! I've chosen only to install the desktop application as I'm on holiday from Saturday and don't want to jeopardise the PDA application which seems to be working fine.
Bearing in mind that the CoPilot Installer is expecting to install a brand new application to a machine that's never had it installed before, does anyone know if not installing to the PDA would cause the Desktop setup not to install properly?
I'm going to have to give up on this I think until I get back from my trip and then start over AGAIN, when I can be without the PDA for a while.
Thanks to all who've tried to help so far, any further advice much appreciated. |
