For the first time today I used my new TomTom GPS, Navigator 3.03 and X3. I'm not very impressed at all with it.
The GPS receiver itself was fine, picking up 8-10 satellites all the time. Problem is with the software. I have a 256mb SD card with the GB map on it. The problems i've had below are listed and comments/suggestions would be appreciated.

1) It took 15 minutes for me to get it into it's cradle and connected before I could drive away. I kept getting stange errors about "can't connect to COM1, port doesn't exist" or a "Can't find a shortcut" error. Eventually after 2 soft resets I managed to get it in the cradle and picking up a GPS signal.

2) I used the route planner to create a route from where I was to where I wanted to go. Entering the destination was slooow. Frequent system pausing and the windows "eggtimer" (that isn't an eggtimer in W2k3SE!). Also the system crashed and just exited a couple of times. I eventually gave up, browsed the map and set a favourite at the place I wanted to go and then did a "Navigate to" and picked it.

3) While driving the sytem worked okay, but at one point I needed to change from daylight to night colors and when I tapped on the screen and then the "Use night colors" when I went back to navigator view the whole thing froze. I had to stop and do a soft reset and carry out the 15 minutes of fiddling (see 1 above) to get it working again.

4) While driving home again after about 1hr 20mins for no apparent reason, the whole system froze again. Had to stop and soft reset again.

For information, I had all the power/memory settings etc not to turn off/dim etc while on external power and the CPU is set to automatic.

Any help/advice would be gratefully received as I am sure that this is a great product!

Richard
