Co-Pilot 5 - Bluetooth GPS

Hi,

I have not played around with this too uch as yet, but I seem to be having difficulty connecting a Fortuna CLip-on.

1) Bluetooth Manger (Pokcet PC 2003) - Connect - fine
2) Co-Pilot Live 5 - Autodetect GPS receiver : Fail

Has anyone got this to connect OK, did you you manual settings, if so, what were they for COM Port/baud rate.

Not a Fortuna, but I had to use manual settings for my Navman 4400. I used COM8 & 57600 on an iPaq 5550. If you use a speed of 4800 it won't take long to try all the COM settings until you find the right one for your PDA.

I don't use BT but found that Auto setting was trying to connect my TT wired GPS on com 2. Changed it to manual and com 1 and away we go.

I have been able to connect to a Fortuna Clip on with no problems.

Used the connect manually option selecting COM port 6, and a speed of 56,000.

I have only needed to do this once. When I start the application from scratch it will use the above options and automatically opens the bluetooth connections.

This is a much faster was of starting than I every had with TomTom v3!

OK, got connected on COM 8 at max baud rate, but dropped it down to 57600 to be on the safe side.

Now to discover what this LIVE connection thing is all about.

Well it did work for a while. No no joy at all.

I have:
1) Soft reset
2) Connected via bluetooth manager
3) Gone through all the COM ports and baud rates with no connection joy.

any suggestions ?

Try resetting the gps. This normally works for me!

reset using crux view. still no joy. I also tried a Tomtom bluetooth and had no luck.

I think either i am doing something wrong with Co-pilot (as I can still connect and use Tomtom). **I am making sure tomtom is not running before I try to connect with co-pilot.

Let me get this right, 1st you connect via bluetooth manager, then you have to go into co-pilot and connect there....why ???

Hmm...did notice even when bluetooth is off and nothing connected, GPS Status stared with Com Port open....

might try the old remove and reinstal

well that didn't work, at least I don't get the COM PORT open message staright away. It just cannot see the bluetooth receiver. I'm open to any suggestions

I wouldn't regard myself as any kind of techie expert, but here are my thoughts:

1. you only need to use the BT connection manager once. This is to establish a profile on your PDA. After this has been done, your PDA can "find" your BT gps each time they are both switched on. It's just like giving someone a key to your house.

2. Similiarly, you only have to set up your BT GPS in Copilot once. All you are doing is telling Copilot where to look for your GPS each time it starts. This should be a simple auto-detect. If it doesn't auto-detect it would be more likley that somehting has gobe wrong with step one.

3. After both these steps are done you do not have to do them again. Simply turn everything on and away you go.

The most likely explanation that I can think of is that your GPS is not correctly configured in BT Manager. The most likely explanation for that would be that the security PIN was not entered. I know that with my instruction manual, this essential part of the process was missing from the manual. I had to find the PIN to use on the web.

Hope this helps narrow things down.

I would also uninstall TomTom ~ GPS and soft reset, this will block and lock open the Bluetooth Out Port on the PPC and stop other applications like CoPilot from accessing Bluetooth.

I had exactly the same problem... It was caused by Tomtom co-existing.

I beleive that they should be able to co-exist but I haven't had time to play with the installation order of Co-pilot & Tomtom nor the version of Tomtom

Dave, you are a genius. Turned out to be Tomtom GPS which was causing the problem. I removed this and then both my Clip On and Tomtom receiver were detected, which is great as it means I can chop and change with easy :D

I also tried out Tomtom without the Tomtom GPS installed and it worked fine too, which I find a bit strange, but hey, I'm not complaining.

This weekend I'll be test driving Co-Pilot and comparing it to Navigator. Will report back.

Thanks! TomTom~GPS is a real PITA! It's only there to fix some Bluetooth issues for when you power a Pocket PC off (esp iPAQ 2210) when an active BT connection is in use, as it will hang the Pocket PC.

However it does block every other program for accessing the Bluetooth COM port. Now if an application is intelligent enough, you should be able to configure it to use GPS Port but most only show COM ports, so it's always better uninstalling it. You gain more from doing this than fixing the BT problem (IMO).
